An Airport Master Plan is a study used to determine the long-term development plans for an airport.

What is the goal or purpose of the Airport Master Plan Update?
The primary goal of a master plan is to provide guidelines for future development of the airport, which provides the facilities necessary to satisfy aviation demand, while balancing airport improvements with local issues. This particular master plan also includes a sustainability component and several other specialty studies.

What is the time period for the Airport Master Plan Update?
Twenty (20) years is the typical time period covered for an Airport Master Plan; however, the plan should be updated approximately every 10 years. The previous Master Plan for Hartford-Brainard Airport was completed in 1999.

What are the components of an Airport Master Plan?
The components include inventory, aviation forecasts; demand capacity and analysis; determination of facility requirements; development of alternatives and concepts; environmental overview/analysis; and updating of Airport Layout Plan drawings in accordance with Federal airport design standards.

The Airport is and always has been open and available for 24-hour use. The Air Traffic Control Tower is closed only on the weekends (from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.), but there are no nighttime flight restrictions.

A full range of corporate jets use the Airport on a regular basis. The majority of these aircraft have wingspans between 40 and 60 feet, and weights between 10,000 and 30,000 pounds.
